January was a great month for Wings of Valor Lodge. Historically, we have avoided this month all together or we have had to postpone hunts, due to the cold weather. This year, we embraced the challenge and successfully hosted two groups of veterans. The mid-January hunters were faced with 20-30 mph winds and wind chills down to minus 12 degrees. The operational team made adaptations throughout the weekend and amazingly, kept the guests safe and comfortable with great success shooting birds! The last group in January faced similar conditions with wind chills at +2 and +7 on the Friday and Saturday hunts. They responded to the challenging conditions by having one of the highest bird counts in our history! Needless to say, they had a great time and now hold the bragging rights for a weekend's hunt. Through it all, volunteers showed up, helped keep our guests safe and comfortable while delivering on the mission. Supporting Those Who Served. The numbers for January are amazing (with just two weekends): Veteran guests: 18 Ambassadors: 4 Volunteers: 55 Volunteer hours: 300+ Hours served by Ambassadors: 300+ Meals served: 200+ Birds shot: 143 Frost Bite: 0 Mosquito bites: 0 Happy Hunters: Everyone! Special thanks to the operational and safety teams for the incredible job of keeping our guests safe and warm! Also, the selfless dedication of our volunteers is immeasurable. Most are veterans themselves.
